I'm not normally a novella person, but each of these novellas tells a satisfying, complete story. Funny, smart, both fast-paced and atmospheric. The quotes she pulled from the books completely hooked me &, indeed, the writing is fantastic. I picked up The Magpie Lord, the first in the 'Charm of Magpies' series, after reading this review of the sequel by Kaetrin over at Kaetrin's Musings. Mostly brief/quickie reviews, but they're exhausting all lumped together.įirst up: a pair of paranormal, Regency-set m/m novellas. It got so long that I decided to break it up into chunks. All in all, this book is a significant effort that really impressed the audience.I started a round-up post of books that I've read and enjoyed recently. Apart from that, the story was also very well-conceived and delivered by KJ Charles. This book will make a great listen where the credit for audiobook really goes to the narrator, Cornell Collins. On the other side, Stephen Day, the magician has got some really good reason to hate the family of Crane. He really didn’t expect the things to get so angry.

He definitely needed to have some magical assistance and that too in a quick time. He has also inherited a good range of enemies of his family. However, with the extremely mysterious deaths of his brother and father, it looked highly likely that the novice Lord Crane has actually inherited an earldom. He had no intentions to ever make a return to England. Lucien Vaudrey was exiled for a couple of decades to China. The author was able to effortlessly bring the characters of Lucien and Stephen to life. Cornell is a British narrator and the performance was A++ by every aspect of audio narration.

The narration of this book is done by Cornell Collins. A similar gripping experience could be observed in her Flight of Magpies novel as well. A good example of her best work is her A Case of Possession. You will mostly experience some element of horror and fantasy in her writing. The author is known for writing gay, straight, contemporary romance, and historical romance stories. A new series starts with this chapter under the title of A Charm of Magpies. The Magpie Lord is an LGBTQ+ fictional novel.
